A comprehensive course
to prepare for birth and baby
This fully comprehensive course is run over 5 weeks.
A midwife will guide you through labour, breathing and relaxation,
breastfeeding and basic baby care.
Week One: Learning about Labour
This first session concentrates on the process of labour and
what both parents may experience. At the end of this session you
will be more clued-up about the process of labour.
You can start to make choices about your care during the three
stages of labour and be more prepared to cope at home and hospital.
Week Two: Breathing and Relaxation
You will learn breathing techniques that are useful in labour. These
techniques enable you to have a greater sense of control and can help
you stay calm and focused.
You will learn some relaxation techniques to stop you becoming too
tired and stressed. Labour will seem like a life time if you don't
learn to distract yourself and switch off!
You will also practice these techniques in the following weeks.
Week Three: Labour Pain and Pain Relief
This session is to help you choose what methods of pain relief you
would like to use during your labour.
We will cover all types of pain relief and look at the pros and cons
of each.
Week Four: Feeding Your New Baby
All new parents have lots of questions about feeding babies.
During this session we will discuss the benefits of breastfeeding
and dispel any worries and myths that you have.
With a little extra knowledge you will be less unsure during those
early days (and nights!).
This is a practical session to prepare both parents for feeding
a baby. We will practice sterilising feeding equipment using a variety
of techniques so everything is clear in your mind.
Lots of first time parents can't seem to imagine life beyond labour.
But soon you will have a new son or daughter to look after!
This session covers basic baby care such as changing a nappy, bathing,
cleaning eyes, looking after umbilical cords and putting your baby
safely to sleep.
